Body Of Christ Blog Series: Part 3

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV

We have so many divisions in the Church, but they are only temporary. God’s Word is eternal. Christ in our life is eternal. Religion will not get us into Heaven. Only Gods grace can do that. No one comes to the father without the intercession of Jesus.

My great grandma grew up Assembly of God. My great grandpa was a Baptist. When he passed, she became very sad. When asked why see was feeling bad, she replied,”I am never going to see Papa again!”

She was reminded that one day see him in Heaven. She was quick to respond,”No I won’t. He was a BAPTIST!!!!” As cute as it was, it was sad that she would think that. That is just what she was taught.

Back in the day, the Assembly of God thought they were the one true Church. The Baptist also thought that. So did Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mormons, along with many others. This brought even more division that we see remnants of to this day.

Catholics and Anglican practice closed communion as do some other churches. Wisconsin Synod Lutheran will not pray with anyone who does not belong to their congregation. With all these divisions, we cannot fully function as the Body Of Christ.

Saint Augustine once said, ” Let us rejoice then and give thanks that we have become not only Christians, but Christ himself. Do you understand and grasp, brethren, God’s grace towards us? Marvel and rejoice: we have become Christ. For if he is the head, we are the members; he and we together are the whole man…..the fullness of Christ then is the head and the members. But what does ‘head and members’ mean? Christ and the Church.

Religion and denominations divide. God’s Word and Salvation through Jesus Christ unify. The Bible says that when two or more come together in his name, things will come to pass. Imagine what would happen if every Christian came together in the Unity of Christ, It would be truly amazing.
