If You Don’t Work/You Don’t Eat

I was raised by my grandpa who had an impeccable work ethic. He retired after 20 years in the Air Force and always had at least three jobs. He sold used washers and dryers until advanced Alzheimer’s retired him.

He taught me that nothing in this world was given to you for free. He taught me that if you wanted something, you had to work for it and do it for the glory of the Lord. At the time, I did not understand it. I do now.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23 NIV

I am thankful for my job. It is not perfect, but what job is? I thank God that they hired my wife and I for the same shift. I love my job, but there are days where I don’t like it.

On those days, I tell myself that God gave my wife and I the opportunity and that we are working for him. It already got me training for a promotion. When I have a bad day, I look at it as a small blotch on a giant picture. It is funny though, I am most happy when the paychecks go into the accounts. Then I realize that I forgot about the bad day.
