Salt Of The Earth

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13 NIV

When Jesus said this, he was using a metaphor with salt. During those times, there was no electricity and they had to preserve the meat so they rubbed it in salt. Salt was one of the highest sought after commodities back then.

What Jesus is saying is that we are the salt of the earth. We are very valuable to him. If we lose that saltiness, we become useless. We do not deserve God’s grace but it is given to us anyway. All we have to do is ask.

  1. I agree with it. But, when Jesus said that, he could have also meant that if you lose the purpose of your life, you become almost useless in his perspective. Well that’s my way of seeing it, I don’t whether it’s true.
