I am sure you have heard someone talk about the patience of Job. You see, Job suffered tremendously, yet his faith in God never ceased. He went through unimaginable suffering that so many people would have given up. Job didn’t.
As Christians and human beings, we are going to suffer. It is called life. The question is: how do we deal with the suffering? Do we get angry and blame God or do we take it to God?
First, Job lost his children and all his wealth in one moment. He grew sores all over his skin. He had every reason to give up, but still stood by his faith.
His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!” Job 2:9 NIV
The devil was looking for someone to go after and God picked Job, because he knew Job’s faith. Job’s faith was being tested in his suffering. His wife even told him to curse God and die.
He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” Job 2:10
Job saw through this and his faith never wavered. Why did God let the devil test Job? Because he knew that Job’s faith would persevere despite all the suffering.
God never gives us more than we can handle. We need to look through the suffering to see what God is teaching us and remain faithful like Job.
But he knows the way that I take; when he tested me, I will come forth as gold. My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside. Job 23:10-11 NIV
