I used to work at a juvenile detention center. A majority of the kids that I worked with were just products of their own environments. Most of them did not have positive role models in their lives. So many of them did not get the guidance they needed.
I was very compassionate because I was once on the path that they were on. By the grace of God, I did not continue on that route or I would not be ministering to people today.
Start children off in the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6 NIV
I grew up going to a Nazarene Church and also went to my grandparent’s church where I got to preach as a kid. It was known as The Move or The Body. It was started by a man named Sam Fife.
It was made up of home churches and communal farms. I spent time on the farms as a kid. They were very controlling and cult like, but they did speak the truth about Jesus.
As a kid, every January, we would go to a convention and listen to 3 days of preaching from all the elders. It was long. So many preachers would preach in the same dull monotone.
Back then I grew to despise it, but now I look back and realize that it was a huge part of my spiritual walk. At 12, I experienced the Holy Spirit on one of the farms. It made me who I am today. I did not see it then. I see it now.
I look around and see a different world then when I was a kid. Kids these days were not taught to respect their elders. I cringe when I saw the HowBowDat girl. If I talked to my mom that way, I would not be blogging right now. How did she get that way? Look at the way her mom acted. Be careful what you do because those little feet are sure to follow.
Things my parents told me went in one ear and out the other, but they stuck with me. I now adhere and love that they taught me. We need to teach our kids. Most will have to learn on their own like I did.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father a mother”-which is the first commandment with a promise-“so that it may go well with you and you may enjoy long life on earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children;instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 NIV
