Paul was an amazing example of faith. He spoke the truth despite being imprisoned and suffering. He suffered for the gospel and was blessed. His blessing wasn’t because of his good works. It was deeper than that. It was not done by his purpose, but Jesus’ purpose. That being God’s purpose.
We received a holy calling from God through Jesus. Jesus didn’t just die on the cross. When He died, there was no more death of our faith. Our faith is alive. Jesus opened the door to eternal life and immortality. Amen!
So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, or of me, His prisoner. Instead, join me in suffering for the gospel by the power of God. He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not because of our own works, but by His own purpose and by the grace He granted us in Christ Jesus before time eternal. And now He has revealed this grace through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the gospel…..2 Timothy 1:8-10 NIV
Paul suffered greatly, but his faith was a testament of Christ. He was crucified on a cross for his faith, but chose to be crucified upside down, because he didn’t feel worthy to be crucified like Jesus did. The Holy Spirit guided Paul the whole way.
For this reason, even though I suffer as I do, I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day. 1 Timothy 1:12 NIV
