Jesus was at the temple courts. There were many people listening to him teach. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman to Jesus who was accused of committing adultery.
They brought her in front of everybody. They said that according to the law of Moses she should be stoned to death. They were doing this to see if they could trap Jesus so that they would have a basis for accusing him.
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” John 8:7 NIV
So many times, people will judge others knowing that they are guilty of sin. It makes them feel better about themselves. Jesus preached against having this holier-than-thou attitudes.
Everyone left but Jesus and the accused woman and Jesus asked her if anyone condemned her. She said no. Jesus told her to: Neither do I. Go and sin no more.
There are so many laws that God gave Moses. You can’t eat pork. Death to adulterers. So many things. These laws were meant for the Jewish People at the time.
When Jesus died and rose, a new Covenant was created. This made the blessing available to everyone. Everytime we judge someone, God will judge us. We are not suppose to put ourselves on God’s pedestal. Amen.
