The Lord’s Name: Part 1

In Exodus 20, God gave Moses the 10 commandments. They were revealed to the people of the day and ultimately us. The 3rd commandment tells us two things. One: we shall never take the Lord’s Name in vain. Two: God will hold us guilty.

When we look at society and Hollywood, we see a world that has become desensitized to taking the Lord’s Name in vain. John Calvin, a great theologian and reformer taught that: whenever the world abandons itself into idolatry, we allow the honor of God to be trampled underfoot.

You never hear anyone say “Oh Buddha” or “Oh Zeus”! When it comes to blasphemy, we never hear anyone used the name of false Gods. The words are only used for God and Jesus.
