Words Hurt

People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:7-8 NLT

The old saying is that sticks and stones will break bones, but names will never hurt is incorrect. Words can cause more pain than bruises. Our words can break people down as much as they uplift people. Evil words bring more evil.

Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. James 3:9 NLT

Not only do our words have the power to uplift or tear down, we need to look at it from a spiritual aspect. Are our words glorifying God or are they cursing those made in His image? We were made in His image. Therefore our words should never be a hinderance to anyone.

And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! James 3:10 NLT
