Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collectors booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. Mark 2:13-15 NIV
It is not so hard to see that Jesus was a friend of sinners. He treated every body as God commanded him. With love and devotion. Jesus loved us so much and had so much devotion for us that he gave his life for us. You. Me. Sinners.
When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. Mark 2:16-17 NIV
The Pharisees saw Jesus hanging with the sinners and were stunned. How could Jesus hang out with such ungodly parasites? He did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.
Let us all strive to be like Jesus. Let’s develop a Jesus mindset, by loving everyone. Especially the sinners and those less fortunate.
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage. Phillipians 2:5–6 NIV
